FreeMasonry

"The dunces who led primitive Christianity astray, by substituting faith for science, reverie for experience, the fantastic for the reality; and the inquisitors who for so many ages waged against Magism (magic and sorcery) a war of extermination, have succeeded in shrouding in darkness the ancient discoveries of the human mind." -Albert Pike, 33rd degree Mason, Morals and Dogma

Basic Beliefs:

  • The Masons are not considered to be a cult by many because of Christian involvement in the organization, but a close look at their beliefs shows otherwise.
  • There are 3 levels: apprentice, fellowcraft, and master mason, which contains 33 degrees.
  • The higher degrees are only offered to those who want to pursue further, and they must become a member of the Scottish Rite or the York Rite to get past the 3rd degree.
  • They teach that the Messiah will be an idea at the pinnacle of evolution, not a personal savior.
  • The focus of the organization is a search for "the Light".
  • They claim that Freemasonry is based upon the Bible, but it is actually based upon the Kabbalah, a book of witchcraft.

Jesus:

  • They do not recognize the deity of Christ or acknowledge him as "the Light".
  • Salvation is through works. It is based upon living a good life and by attaining the level of master mason.
  • "The religion of Freemasonry is not Christian." - Albert Mackey, 33rd degree Mason
  • They place themselves above all religions, which they place on equal standings.
  • They do not acknowledge the sinfulness of man or the need for forgiveness, only the pursuance of "the light".
  • They pray, but are forbidden to pray in Jesus' name, and they omit His name from any Scripture they read.

Salvation:

  • They claim that salvation is only available through their organization.

"I hereby promise the Great Spirit Lucifer, Prince of Demons, that each year I will bring unto him a human soul to do with as as it may please him, and in return Lucifer promises to bestow upon me the treasures of the Earth and fulfill my every desire for the length of my natural life. If I fail to bring him each year the offering specified above, then my own soul shall be forfeit to him.

- Manly P. Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages

"Masonry is regarded as the direct descendant, or as a survival of the mysteries...of Isis and Osiris in Egypt."

- Robert Freke Gould, History of Freemasonry

Witness Focus:

  • Be prepared to come in contact with some Christians who are part of the Freemasons, and see no problem with it.
  • For them, ask them questions concerning salvation in the Masonic Order.
  • For others, show them the impossibility of being good enough to earn salvation.
  • Show them that there is only one true God, who they will one day stand in judgment before, and that they must be prepared.

"We shall unleash the Nihilists and Atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effects of absolute Atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will be from that moment without compass, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view, a manifestation which will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and Atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."

- Albert Pike, in Aug. 15, 1871 letter to Grand Master Guiseppie Mazzini (British Museum Archives)

"That which we must say to the crowd is, we worship a God, but it is the God one adores without superstition. To you sovereign grand inspector general, we say this and you may repeat it to the brethren of the 32nd, 31st and 30th degrees - the Masonic religion should be by all of us initiates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the luciferian doctrine. If Lucifer were not God, would Adonay (the God of the Christians) whose deeds prove cruelty, perfidy and hatred of man, barbarism and repulsion for science, would Adonay and His priests, calumniate Him? Yes, Lucifer is God, and unfortunately Adonay is also God, for the eternal law is that there is no light without shade, no beauty without ugliness, no white without black, for the absolute can only exist as two gods. Darkness being necessary for light to serve as its foil, as the pedestal is necessary to the statue, and the brake to the locomotive. Thus, the doctrine of Satanism is heresy, and the true and pure philosophical religion is the belief in Lucifer, the equal of Adonay, but Lucifer, God of light and God of good, is struggling for humanity against Adonay, the god of darkness and evil."

- General Albert Pike, The Question of Freemasonry, by Edward Decker, (pp.12-14)

Cults? Engaged or Ignored?

There can be no question that cults and false religions are growing rapidly. Organizations that once were merely “on the fringe” of society are now becoming more influential and prominent. Because of this growth, the likelihood that a Christian will come in contact with an individual that is involved with a cult is quite high. What is to be our response? Are we to ignore them? Are we to attack them verbally? Are we to tell them to never come any where near us ever again? What are we to do? I believe the answer is found quite plainly in Scripture. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15 God wants all to come to repentance and that includes members of cults.

Does reaching these individuals take some preparation? Of course it will. There is no need for a believer to be an expert on every belief in the world, but a familiarity with the beliefs common to your area would be a help. Some questions to consider:

* Are there any cults in your area?

* Do you know anything factual about any cults?

* If you were to converse with a cult member would you know it?

Often the best preparation for witnessing to a cultist is to know why you believe what you believe. Know the basics and Scriptures that support them. Do you believe in Creation? Why? Could you prove it by other means than Scripture? It is God’s desire to see all in a right relationship with Him and to use you and I to present them with the opportunity. Will you be ready?

Basic Beliefs:

  • It's beginning goes to when Jesus told Peter, "upon this rock will I build my church." They believe Peter was that rock and therefore the first Pope.
  • They claim that the structure of the Roman Catholic Church is based upon the early church.
  • They claim that the Bible is their final authority, but in practice it is Papal infallibility.
  • They added the Apocrypha to the Bible which is where most of their doctrine comes from.
  • They claim that the Bible should be interpreted based upon church tradition.
  • When the Pope speaks from his chair it is infallible "Scripture", regardless if it contradicts Scripture.

Jesus:

  • They acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, but their view is off.
  • To the Catholic the sacrifice of Jesus is insufficient. Salvation can only come throught the church.
  • Jesus is not their mediator, the priest is, as he is the one who forgives them of their sins.
  • They rarely if ever pray to Jesus, but to saints, other people, and Mary.
  • They repeat the death of Christ through transubstantiation, the bread and wine become the literal body and blood of Christ.

Salvation:

They have 7 sacraments that provide salvation:

  1. baptism
  2. confirmation
  3. penance
  4. eucharist
  5. holy orders
  6. matrimony
  7. and annointing the sick.

  • Each time they observe the Eucharist it brings a piece of salvation.
  • Salvation is available because of Christ, but can only be obtained by works.

Witness Focus:

  • Ask them how a person gets to heaven.
  • Show them that we can never be good enough on our own. It is by grace, through faith, NOT OF WORKS. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Jehovah Witnesses

Basic Beliefs:

  • Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the Watchtower Society began his search because of his fear of Hell.
  • He learned from the Seventh Day Adventists that "there is no hell."
  • From this point he began his "search for the truth" , of which the Jehovah's Witnesses are the result.
  • They claim that the Bible is their final authority, but also claim that the common person is unable to understand it, and therefore needs the assistance of their literature.
  • They place the writings and sayings of their literature above the Bible in practice.

Jesus:

  • They deny the deity of Jesus claiming, Jesus is not God but "a god".
  • They teach that Jesus was actually the angel Michael in spirit form, but Michael in-dwelled the body of Jesus.
  • They also teach that when Jesus arose, his physical body disappeared and Michael took on human appearance and pretended to be Jesus. Therefore at this time Jesus does not exist, just Michael.

Salvation:

  • Salvation to the Jehovah's Witnesses is one of works.
  • Originally they claimed that only 144,000 would go to heaven, but as they grew they changed it to the original 144,000 will go to heaven, the rest will live on a "paradise earth".
  • They deny the existence of hell, and those that reject the "truth" are simply annihilated.
  • A person obtains salvation by faithfully adhering to the commands of the Watchtower Society, after they are baptized into the Society.
  • If a person does not obey the leadership they are dis-fellow-shipped and condemned to be destroyed.

Witness Focus:

  • Ask them how much is "enough" to attain salvation.
  • Ask them how they attain righteousness as "the righteous inherit the earth." (Psalms 37:29)
  • Show them how we can never be good enough to earn salvation.
